How to play Spit in one minute

  1. Your layout: five piles of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cards, top card face up. The other 11 cards are your spit cards.
  2. Play: tap a top card that is one higher or one lower than a middle pile. The card under it turns up by itself.
  3. Empty space: a card that fits nowhere can move into an empty space, so you can turn up a new card. You never have more than five piles.
  4. Stuck: when nobody can play, both players spit a new card onto the middle.
  5. End of a deal: when someone clears all five piles, both slap a middle pile. Take the smaller one if you can! Then both deal again.
  6. Win: the first player with no cards left wins.

Questions

How do you win at Spit?

By getting rid of all your cards. Each time you clear your five piles first, you take the smaller middle pile, so you have fewer cards in the next deal.

What does “spit” mean in the game?

Both players turn a spit card from their hand onto the middle at the same time, usually shouting “spit”. It starts the play, and you do it again whenever nobody can play.

Can I play Spit with a friend on one device?

Yes. Choose “2 players”. Player 1 uses the bottom row, Player 2 the top row, by tapping or with the keyboard.

What if I have fewer than 15 cards?

Then you deal your cards into the five piles as far as they go and you have no spit cards. Only your opponent spits, so there is one middle pile.
