How to play Nertz in one minute
- Your cards: a Nertz pile of 13 (top card face up), four work piles of one card, and a stock.
- Middle: any ace starts a new pile. Build up in the same suit to the king. Everyone shares these piles.
- Work piles: build down in alternating colours (red 6 on black 7). You can move cards between them. An empty work pile takes any card.
- Stock: tap it to turn three cards onto your waste pile. The top waste card can be played.
- Nertz! When your Nertz pile is empty, call Nertz to end the deal.
- Score: +1 for each of your cards in the middle, −2 for each card left in your Nertz pile.
Tap a card to send it to the middle if it fits there. Otherwise it is picked up: then tap a work pile to put it there. Full rules: how to play Nertz.
Questions
Is Nertz the same as Nerts or Pounce?
Yes. Nertz, Nerts, Pounce and Racing Demon are names for the same racing patience game.
How is Nertz scored?
You score 1 point for each of your cards in the middle and lose 2 points for each card left in your Nertz pile. The game usually goes to 100 points.
Do I have to call Nertz as soon as my pile is empty?
No. You may keep playing to get more cards into the middle first. Our computer players always call straight away.
What if everyone is stuck?
Everyone turns their waste pile back into a stock and moves the top card to the bottom. Our game does this for you once all players are stuck. Press “I’m stuck” if you are waiting.
