How to play Speed in one minute
- Your cards: five in your hand and 15 in your stock. The computer has the same.
- Play: there are no turns. Tap any card that is one higher or one lower than the top card of a middle pile. Suits don’t matter, and the ace goes on a king or a 2.
- Draw: your hand fills back up to five from your stock.
- Stuck? When nobody can play, a new card is turned onto each middle pile from the spare piles.
- Win: be the first to play every card in your hand and stock.
On a 7 you can play a 6 or an 8. Then on the 8 you can play a 9 or a 7, and so on.

Questions
Is this Speed card game free?
Yes. There is nothing to buy, no sign-up and no ads. Your stats are saved in your own browser.
How do I play Speed against the computer?
Press Start. Tap a card in your hand that is one higher or one lower than a middle card. If it fits both middle piles, tap the pile you want. Your hand fills back up to five cards by itself.
Can two people play Speed on one screen?
Yes. Choose “2 players”. Player 1 plays from the bottom and Player 2 from the top, by tapping or with the keyboard. On a tablet the top cards turn to face the other player.
Does the ace count high or low in Speed?
Both. An ace can go on a king or a 2, and a king or a 2 can go on an ace. Suits never matter.
What happens when nobody can play?
A new card is turned from each spare pile onto the middle piles. When the spare piles run out, the middle piles (except the top cards) are shuffled to make new spare piles. The game does this for you.
What is the difference between Speed and Spit?
In Speed you hold a hand of five cards and draw from a stock pile. In Spit your cards lie face up in five piles, and the game is played over several deals.
